How it works

Five steps from download to edit

VoidCutter reads the transcript attached to your active Premiere sequence. It does not transcribe audio itself, and captions are not required.

    Download the .ccx

    Use the ready-made installer from the official GitHub Release.

  2. 02

    Install with Creative Cloud

    Open the package with Adobe Creative Cloud Desktop and approve the installation.

  3. 03

    Open VoidCutter

    In Premiere, choose Window > UXP Plugins > VoidCutter.

  4. 04

    Prepare the transcript

    Create or refresh the active sequence transcript in Premiere's Text panel.

  5. 05

    Run the right workflow

    Run Remove Silence locally, or configure Gemini for the AI-assisted tools.

After timeline changes: refresh the sequence transcript before another transcript-based operation.

Before applying AI results: review suggestions and keep only the ranges or moments you want.

AI & Privacy

AI when it helps. Transcript data only.

VoidCutter has no website analytics, cookies, forms, or tracking scripts. The plugin contacts Gemini only when you run an AI-assisted tool.

What uses Gemini

  • Remove Silence: no provider request.
  • Remove Retakes, Create Shorts, Generate Metadata: Gemini requests using your personal API key.
  • The key is stored through UXP secureStorage.
  • Gemini receives only necessary transcript words or identifiers, applicable timing and settings, and the instruction.

What is not sent

  • Raw audio or raw video.
  • Premiere project files, project or sequence names.
  • Media paths or unrelated project metadata.
  • Metadata Custom Text blocks.

Google processes Gemini requests under its own terms and privacy policies. Decide whether a transcript is appropriate to send before running an AI-assisted tool.

VoidCutter may be useful to editors looking for a free, open-source alternative for parts of a FireCut or AutoCut workflow, including pause removal, retake review, Shorts discovery, and publishing metadata. It is not currently a feature-for-feature replacement for either product.

Current limitations

Clear boundaries for version 1.0.0

VoidCutter is practical for ordinary transcript-based editing, but it does not claim to cover every Premiere workflow.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro 25.6 or newer is required.
  • An existing transcript for the active sequence is required; VoidCutter does not transcribe audio.
  • Remove Retakes, Create Shorts and Generate Metadata require internet access and a personal Gemini API key.
  • AI quality depends on the selected model and transcript accuracy; suggestions must be reviewed.
  • Create Shorts preserves the source aspect ratio; automatic vertical reframing is not implemented.
  • Effects, Captions and audio-based silence detection are not implemented.
  • Nested, multicam, speed-remapped or heavily linked timelines may behave differently from ordinary talking-head sequences.
  • Keep sequence-copy protection enabled and inspect the generated copy; an operation can stop after partial work inside that copy.
